BOAT CAPSIZED 50 FEARED DROWNED

Chinsura, 7 Aug: At least fifty persons are feared drowned and several others feared missing following a horrible boat accident in the Hooghly river yesterday at about four in the afternoon. According to official sources the ill fated boat was over loaded and when it was floating in the mid stream, suddenly it got capsized. Among the killed are mostly women and children. Ten persons are reported to have swam ashore safe. The rest are either killed or missing. Immediately after the accident the local boatmen along with water police personnel jumped into rescue work. Fifty bodies are reported to have so far been recovered. More bodies are apprehended to be lying under water. Divers and speed boats have been deployed in the rescue operation. According to the reports received till mid night, rescue operation is going on in full swing. Terror and bereavement loom large in the entire area.

নৌকা ডুবে ৫০ জন ডুবে যাওয়ার আশঙ্কা

 চিনসুরা, 7 অগাস্ট: গতকাল বিকেল চারটার দিকে হুগলি নদীতে একটি ভয়ঙ্কর নৌকা দুর্ঘটনার পরে কমপক্ষে 50 জনের ডুবে যাওয়ার আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে এবং আরও কয়েকজন নিখোঁজ হওয়ার আশঙ্কা করা হচ্ছে।  সরকারী সূত্রে জানা গেছে, দুর্ভাগ্যজনক নৌকাটি অতিরিক্ত বোঝাই ছিল এবং মাঝ স্রোতে ভাসতে থাকলে হঠাৎ সেটি উল্টে যায়।  নিহতদের মধ্যে বেশিরভাগই নারী ও শিশু।  দশ জন লোক সাঁতরে উপকূলে নিরাপদে আছে বলে জানা গেছে।  বাকিরা হয় নিহত বা নিখোঁজ।  দুর্ঘটনার পরপরই স্থানীয় নৌযান ও নৌপুলিশ সদস্যরা উদ্ধার কাজে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে।  এখন পর্যন্ত ৫০টি মৃতদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে বলে জানা গেছে।  আরও মৃতদেহ পানির নিচে পড়ে থাকতে দেখা গেছে।  উদ্ধার অভিযানে ডুবুরি ও স্পিড বোট মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে।  মধ্যরাত পর্যন্ত প্রাপ্ত খবরে বলা হয়েছে, উদ্ধারকাজ চলছে পুরোদমে।  গোটা এলাকায় আতঙ্ক ও শোক বিরাজ করছে।
